Five ways to destress during finals!

We all know finals week is the most stressful of the year, and with it fast approaching everyone needs ways to destress to make sure we don’t absolutely lose our minds!

Spend time with your pet! There have been multiple studies done that prove that spending time with your pets help with stress as well as depression. I know that spending time with my fur baby takes a ton of stress off after a really long day. If you don’t have a pet of your own, contact a friend with a four-legged love ball and spend some time getting some kitty or puppy love!

Go to a Yoga Class! Nothing helps cope with stress better than breathing in good energy and exhaling all the negativity of your day. Being active has also been proven to help with stress so not only relax and destress with some yoga, but break a sweat and release some endorphins!

Replace coffee with green tea! For those of you who don’t know, green tea still contains caffeine! But the health benefits of green tea significantly overpower those of coffee. Green tea contains antioxidants that are powerful for your body. It also increases fat burning, so if you’re trying to stay healthy while conquering finals week, replace that daily coffee with a delicious green tea! You can still go on your Starbucks run!

Watch a funny show on Netflix or YouTube! Destress with some laughter. After all, laughter is the best medicine. When you take a break, watch a 20 minute episode of The Office or Parks & Rec to get your mind in a more peaceful place! Or if you don’t trust yourself to stop after one episode on Netflix, watch an episode of Good Mythical Morning on YouTube. Telling myself that if I study for an hour straight, I get to watch Rhett & Link do something crazy for 15 minutes usually motivates me to focus in and push though!

Clean small areas in your house! This one won’t sound appealing to all, but cleaning actually helps me to calm down. I automatically get stressed out when I walk into a dirty room. After studying for a long period of time, replace your “cell phone breaks” with a cleaning break. Even if it’s as simple as throwing a load of laundry in the wash! Don’t be shy to put on some music and dance the fact that you’re cleaning away!

If you find that you’re overly stressed. Reach out to a professional for online counseling. Thanks for reading! Good luck with finals, don’t forget to destress and take care of yourself! Happy Studying!
