One of the most challenging things while being a full-time student is of course spending the time needed to study for each class to make the grades we want. In addition to that, we have assignments, class, volunteer roles, and a social life to maintain. If all of that isn’t enough, many students take on a part-time job. Trying to balance it all can seem a bit overwhelming, but here are some things I have done/do that help me to manage my time and balance a life that I love!
Use the crap out of your planner
One reason I don’t completely lose my mind through the duration of a long semester is the simple fact that I carry my planner around like it’s a baby. I use my planner for everything!! Some days I will write a To-Do list or on my busy days, I will schedule my day out hour by hour to make sure I can fit everything in. When scheduling around a job, there is no shame in scheduling dinner!
Wake up earlier
Waking up earlier has really helped me get things done. Yes, this means going to bed earlier than usual, but I tend to be more productive right after I’ve had my morning coffee and am ready for the day. Getting your brain working early will help you to get stuff done and is great for your mental health!
Cross things off your To-Do list early
Every morning, go through your To-Do list for the day and try to cross off as many tasks as you can early. Go to the gym? Clean the kitchen? Go grocery shopping? Tasks like these can be done early in the day so they aren’t hanging over your head all day. This gives you more time to study in between classes or do some school assignments before you have to go into work.
Make time for a social life
Just being in college and studying all the time makes it hard to keep up with a healthy social life, but it is so important!! Taking breaks and spending time with the people you love is so essential to creating a healthy balance in life!
Bring your computer/notes with you everywhere
Bringing your notes/computer with you everywhere makes it easier to study in between classes or any breaks you have throughout the day. If you can get your school work done early in the day, you won’t have to stress about deadlines. Even just reading an article for class during lunch can save you time later!
Make friends with your coworkers
Making friends with your coworkers makes work life more enjoyable and helps you keep up a social life while at work! Two birds with one stone!
Create a saving account
Creating a savings account is ,kind of, a no brainer for many reasons, but for the purpose of balance in college life, it can help you de-stress. After you have had a hard week of work and classes and Saturday hits, I love to de-stress by going shopping with my girlfriends. Shopping is my type of therapy. Having a savings account helps me to manage my money and allows me to know when I can ball out or when I should be frugal.
These are some of the things I do every week to help my mental and physical health while in school. Although school can be stressful and balance can be challenging, it is possible! Just live the best life you can and happiness will always follow!
